OSWIECIM, Poland—Appearing at its first North American trade show since it acquired the Pennsylvania-based Trinseo's synthetic rubber division late in 2021, Synthos will exhibit its sustainable innovations at the International Elastomer Conference in Knoxville, Tenn., Oct. 10-13.

The company will be at Booth No. 908 at the conference, organized by the ACS Rubber Division.

Specifically, the synthetic rubber and plastics manufacturer intends to highlight its solution styrene butadiene rubber, which the company said offers improved rolling resistance for greater fuel efficiency and battery range.

"Looking ahead to the ban on ICE cars by 2035 in California, we believe advanced SSBR will play an increasingly important role as one of the leading solutions for tire treads for electric vehicles that meet the technical requirements for high torque, higher weight and longer battery range," said Matteo Marchisio, Synthetic Rubber Business Unit director for Synthos. "In addition, with rising fuel prices, we are seeing increasing pressure from consumers to buy better and higher performing tires that not only have lower fuel consumption, but also meet other sustainability requirements."

In addition to SSBR, Synthos will highlight its ESBR, BR, high-styrene rubber and NBR; its mass balance certification for the entirety of its synthetic rubber profile; the company's innovative bio-butadiene, set to go to market in 2025; and TyreXol, a recycled rubber powder that Synthos patented following its collaboration with Switzerland-based Tyre Recycling Solutions SA.

"As a company and as a synthetic rubber business unit, we have grown beyond our own expectations since 2020," Marchisio said. "We are very proud to be able to offer our customers a wide range of solutions that help them meet the needs of their customers and their customers' customers, while helping the industry achieve its sustainability goals."

Technical presentations will be offered by Synthos experts Sven Thiele (Oct. 11 at 1:30 p.m.) and Klaus Schulmeister (Oct. 12 at 12:30 p.m.) at the conference.

Around the same time the company acquired Trinseo, Synthos announced its Evergreen strategy and 2030 sustainability commitments, which includes becoming carbon-free by 2028 and climate-neutral by 2050.

Further advancing its bio-butadiene technology, Synthos is planning a 40 kiloton-per-year plant in Oswiecim that should be online by 2025.

In addition to synthetic rubber, Synthos manufactures styrene plastics, plant protection products and dispersions, latex and adhesives. The company maintains facilities in Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and France.

Global production capacity is around 2.34 million metric tons per year and Synthos employs about 3,600 people around the world.
